Mines on Stake: strategy and probabilities
Mines is a grid game where each revealed tile increases your multiplier. Here's how to approach it with a mathematical framework.
Mines is a provably fair game from Stake. You choose the number of mines hidden in a 5×5 grid (25 tiles), then reveal tiles one by one. Each safe tile increases your multiplier — hitting a mine loses everything. You can cash out at any time.
Probability calculation
| Mines | Safe tile 1 | Safe tiles 1-3 | Multiplier at tile 3 |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 mine | 96% | 89% | ~1.12x |
| 3 mines | 88% | 68% | ~1.45x |
| 5 mines | 80% | 51% | ~2.1x |
| 10 mines | 60% | 25% | ~5x |
Conservative strategy: few mines, quick cashout
With 1 to 3 mines, reveal 2 to 4 tiles then cash out systematically. The multiplier is modest (1.1x to 1.5x) but the success rate is high. This approach suits players who want to extend sessions with low per-round risk.
Aggressive strategy: many mines, big multiplier
With 10 to 15 mines, revealing even 3 tiles can generate 5x to 20x multipliers. The risk is high but so are the potential gains. Significantly reduce your bet size with this approach — the variance is extreme.
Golden rule: decide in advance how many tiles to reveal
The biggest mistake in Mines is continuing to reveal tiles "to see how high it goes" after a good start. Decide before each round how many tiles you will reveal — and stick to that decision. The auto-cashout feature in settings helps automate this discipline.
