Crypto Casino Glossary

This glossary brings together all the technical terms used across Online Casino Coach — bankroll, provably fair, rakeback, crypto... Each definition links to the full guide if you want to go deeper.

Bankroll & strategy

RTP (Return to Player)

The theoretical percentage of wagers a game pays back to players over the long run. An RTP of 96% means that, statistically, €96 is redistributed for every €100 wagered — the house edge is therefore 4%. The higher the RTP, the more favourable the game is to the player long-term.

Volatility

Measures how often and how large a game's payouts are, usually rated 1 to 5. Low volatility (1-2) gives frequent but modest wins; high volatility (4-5) gives rare but potentially huge wins, with longer dry spells between hits.

House edge

The casino's structural mathematical advantage on every bet, expressed as a percentage. Calculated as 100% minus the RTP. On blackjack with correct basic strategy, it's around 0.5%; on horse racing bets, it can exceed 15-30%.

Bankroll

The total capital a player allocates to gambling, kept separate from savings or living expenses. Good bankroll management means sizing bets proportionally to this capital to limit the risk of ruin. See our free bankroll management tool.

Betting unit

A fixed amount (often 1-2% of bankroll) used as a reference to size each bet. Working in units rather than fixed amounts automatically adjusts stakes as your capital changes.

Stop-loss

A pre-set loss limit (amount or percentage of session bankroll) beyond which a player stops playing, regardless of the temptation to continue. One of the most effective discipline tools against tilt.

Variance

A statistical measure of how spread out possible outcomes are around the theoretical average result. High variance means very different session results from one time to the next, even with the same strategy — the mathematical counterpart of volatility.

Provably Fair & security

Provably Fair

A cryptographic system letting a player mathematically verify, after the fact, that a game outcome wasn't manipulated. Relies on exchanging cryptographic hashes before and after each round. See our full Provably Fair guide.

RNG (Random Number Generator)

The random number generator used to determine game outcomes. On third-party games (slots, live casino), it's certified by external audit. On provably fair proprietary games (Crash, Mines...), it's directly verifiable by the player.

Server seed

A random value generated by the casino before a round, kept secret (as a hash) until the round ends, to guarantee it wasn't chosen after the fact based on a desired outcome.

Client seed

A value the player can set themselves (or that's generated automatically), combined with the server seed to determine the outcome. The player's contribution makes the result impossible for the casino alone to predict.

"Predictor" (scam)

Fake tools claiming to predict a provably fair game's outcome in advance. Since the server seed isn't revealed until after the round by design, no external tool can legitimately predict a result ahead of time — any site selling such a tool is misleading its users.

Bonuses & loyalty

Rakeback

A percentage of total wagered volume (won or lost) returned to the player, with no extra wagering condition. Unlike a regular bonus, it's a direct, immediate gain. See our full rakeback guide.

Cashback

A partial refund calculated only on net losses over a given period (often weekly or monthly) — not to be confused with rakeback, which covers total wagered volume including wins.

Bonus Buy

A paid option on certain slots letting you directly trigger free spins or the bonus round, without waiting for a natural hit. Typically costs 100x the base stake, with higher risk and higher potential reward.

Wagering requirement

The betting volume that must be reached before a promotional bonus can be withdrawn. A bonus with x30 wagering requires betting 30 times its amount before unlocking — a key factor in judging a bonus's real value.

VIP rank / tier

A loyalty level unlocked based on cumulative wagering volume, typically granting higher rakeback and exclusive perks. On Stake, progression follows a tiered system (Bronze through Obsidian).

Crypto & payments

Minimum deposit

On crypto casinos like Stake or Duelbits, there's generally no platform-imposed minimum (technical floor around €0.01) — the real practical limit comes from blockchain network fees. See our minimum crypto deposit guide.

ERC-20 / TRC-20

Blockchain network standards on which certain cryptos (notably USDT) can move. ERC-20 (Ethereum network) often has high fees; TRC-20 (Tron network) has near-zero fees. Sending a deposit on the wrong network results in permanent loss of funds.

Wallet

A tool (app, extension or exchange account) used to hold, send and receive cryptocurrencies. Required before you can deposit on a crypto casino.

KYC (Know Your Customer)

A mandatory identity verification process on most reputable gambling platforms, aimed at preventing money laundering. See our full KYC guide.

Games & mechanics

Crash

A provably fair game where a multiplier climbs from 1x to a random "crash" point — the player must cash out before it happens. See our full Crash strategy guide.

Auto cash-out

A feature letting you pre-set a target multiplier at which your stake is automatically cashed out on a Crash game, removing the temptation to "hold for a bit more" under emotion.

Stake Originals

Proprietary games developed by Stake (Crash, Dice, Mines, Limbo, Plinko...), all provably fair and therefore mathematically verifiable by the player.

Free spins

Rounds of play offered at no extra cost, usually triggered by a specific combination or purchased via bonus buy. Often come with enhanced win multipliers.

Regulation & safety

Curaçao licence

A gambling licence issued by Curaçao authorities, the common standard for crypto casinos like Stake and Duelbits. Always verify the displayed licence number is real and active in the regulator's public registry.

VPN (Virtual Private Network)
